Was in Jackson Missouri recently and perhaps someone knows the history of this heavyweight that languishes as a "haunt" .. It has a number on the center sill of MPX 4073. Not sure if this was identified in the list of surviving heavyweight cars... but perhaps someone can identify the history of this car... Thought a few members of the forum might find it interesting. Pullman lettering still bleeds through the layers of chipping and faded paint. Dean Levin

That car has been there for a long time, but I never hunted down its history. According to the AAR, MPX is assigned to COLUMBIAN CARBON CO., MAGNETIC PIGMENT DIV., but I have never found the passenger car listed. |

MPX were the reporting marks for Missouri Pacific company service equipment, such as bunk cars, derricks, cranes, dump cars, etc. |

The car is / was (as of 2006 anyway) owned by Boulder Scientific Company of Mead Colorado. The sketch history of the car I have says that it was a Pullman built mid train lounge used by the Missouri Pacific and later transferred to Mo Pac MOW service. It was purchased from the MP around 1990 by Boulder Scientific and moved to Jackson. The car's interior has been gutted, but the wall and ceiling details are still there and (as of 2006) most of the windows were still there and intact under the plywood. Jason Midyette |
