Tradition suggests that tomorrow (April 1) will find the list inundated with a variety of creative posts. Some of these may be works of fiction… Some may have a hint of truth hidden by humor. So may be close enough to truth to hurt.

Enjoy the day, and the very creative thinking found on the board. Try not to take anything personally or too seriously.

Tomorrow we can return to discussions of park locomotives, rivets, faded paint and all those things which so excite us on a regular basis.

Your (occasionally) friendly moderators.

Randy

A longstanding tradition which even the Congress of the United States has seen fit to uphold. Having decided in their infinite wisdom that they could do a better job than the then management of the eastern railroads, the first day of operation of the Consolidated Railroad Corporation was, of course, the 1st of April 1976. Nothing that the often fertile imaginations of this board's participants can conjure from whole cloth will ever top the 4-R Act.

I have often wondered if the reality is that at least some of the votes were tendered in the belief that that the (in)famous Flying Bordello would somehow be based in Washington...

Tell me Brother Camel, is a restored executive jet furnished with convertible couches considered Railway Preservation if we letter it for Penn Central?

Actually now that it is April 1st on the east coast I would like to announce the roll out of my fully operational Heritage PRR Electric Locomotive, a Loewy bodied 2-C+C-2 unit fully EPA and Amtrak certified, scheduled to be towed from the quarry by our shop switcher, a B-6 modified to burn natural gas, later today...

Put an NYC tender behind the K4 and the energy crisis will be solved. As Scott Adams proposed, just surround the graves of all of the Pennsy and NYC men with copper coils. When they start spinning in their graves, they'll power the continent.

What about a locomotive bearing the name "Pan Am"?

Likely to get a bit damp on the trans-Pacific route... and how will you deal with the gauge issues in Hawaii?

It took nearly 15 years to sort out the mess, but Conrail ended up becoming a very profitable and desirable merger partner, and (at least by some - see the CRHS) a fondly remembered fallen flag. It certainly gave more color and diversity to Northeastern railroading versus today.

Seeing as the posts in question are being tossed over to "Railfanning" by moderators, shouldn't this "warning" be sent over there to accompany them?

No, it should stay here, and a second warning be put over there... oh wait, I think it's too late!

I was just informed that the moderators will consequently allow April Fools jokes into tomorrow, Wednesday, April 2nd.

(Not! - lol).

Just curious... Is beating dead horses considered animal cruelty?

I was so looking forward to the location of the warehouse in Jersey, filled with stored GG1's.
