The photography was great, but they needed to lose the music line; at best have used it only for the video intro... Better to have the ambient sounds of 630's operation for the soundtrack alone, my opinion... |

Hey now...DIXIE DREGS is cool stuff. Maybe not over the top of a subject that has its own "cool sounds", but quality music none the less. Don't forget that the little whirlybird probably made some racket of its own that might have drowned out the train sounds "way down there" (if there was any rail audio at all during the drone shots.) Needless to say: unusual angles! |

Dixie Dregs were/are a phenomenal group (guitarist Steve Morse is also an accomplished pilot, plays Bach on acoustic guitar)...that said, for railroad videos, music is a nuisance and distraction at best. We're united in our enthusiasm for things on flanged rails; not so with music. Yes, turning the volume down will eliminate the music, but what's the point of a railroad video without railroad sounds... |

We tried this one time and the digital recorder cut out after a few minutes of enduring vibration. Yea, you know you're getting old when you're shocked to find out Steve Morse moved on from the Dixie Dreggs and has been the lead guitarist for Deep Purple for ~20 years. LOL |

Even though is does not have anything to do with the Radford trips, it does have to do with 630. In the picture (link enclosed) the smokebox door looks like it has a smear of rust or brown paint on it. What happened? http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 448&nseq=1 |

Paint failure? I somehow doubt the smokebox is worked up with oil and graphite, so paint it is, and if the engine's been working hard with good coal, things get how. Add in the humidity of the east and rust you'll get. Michael Seitz Missoula MT |
