The photography was great, but they needed to lose the music line; at best have used it only for the video intro... Better to have the ambient sounds of 630's operation for the soundtrack alone, my opinion...

Nothing quite like middle of the road, public domain, third rate Nashville studio muzak to screw up an otherwise outstanding video. Awful, awful, awful music.

Hey now...DIXIE DREGS is cool stuff. Maybe not over the top of a subject that has its own "cool sounds", but quality music none the less. Don't forget that the little whirlybird probably made some racket of its own that might have drowned out the train sounds "way down there" (if there was any rail audio at all during the drone shots.) Needless to say: unusual angles!

Nice work with the drone. I suspect we will see more of that in the future.

Next time that Awful Awful Awful music is on a video, turn the volume off.
Simple solution.

Dixie Dregs were/are a phenomenal group (guitarist Steve Morse is also an accomplished pilot, plays Bach on acoustic guitar)...that said, for railroad videos, music is a nuisance and distraction at best. We're united in our enthusiasm for things on flanged rails; not so with music. Yes, turning the volume down will eliminate the music, but what's the point of a railroad video without railroad sounds...

Are you guys sure that's the Dixie Dreggs? I've never heard steel guitar on a Dreggs track before.

The only way to do aerial video with "good" audio is to put a microphone on the locomotive. We tried this one time and the digital recorder cut out after a few minutes of enduring vibration. At that point it was either insert music or have silence with the video.

I can't guarantee it, but sure sounds like the Dregs...or at least Steve Morse. Guess I'll have to check my collection!?!

Yea, you know you're getting old when you're shocked to find out Steve Morse moved on from the Dixie Dreggs and has been the lead guitarist for Deep Purple for ~20 years. LOL

Even though is does not have anything to do with the Radford trips, it does have to do with 630. In the picture (link enclosed) the smokebox door looks like it has a smear of rust or brown paint on it. What happened?

Paint failure? I somehow doubt the smokebox is worked up with oil and graphite, so paint it is, and if the engine's been working hard with good coal, things get how. Add in the humidity of the east and rust you'll get.
