Post subject:  Rumors of Cass Scenic change of operations/possible shutdown

Have read a couple of postings on other sites about the possible shutdown/curtailment/change of operation-operator of the Cass Scenic Railroad. No details are given on any of them, but due to the current anti-history-anti-coal-anti America-when-it-was-Great climate of most politics these days this certainly seems in the realm of possibility.

So what information is available?

I stay connected to CSRR, and I think it's safe to say that "shutdown" is not being considered. The geared locos will continue to traverse the switchbacks up the mountain.

What IS being considered, and I understand it is not a "fictional" rumor, is contracting operations of the railroad to an outside contractor (not part of the WV Dept. of Natural Resources, who manages the park).

Rumor is that the neighboring Durbin & Greenbrier RR is being considered as a manager.

I yield to more knowledgeable folks.
