Beading tubes in Grove Farm steam locomotive PAULO using special tool fabricated to accommodate close clearances in the smokebox. Boiler work is accomplished on the Museum track, re-layed on the existing Lihue Plantation/Grove Farm right-of-way in Nawiliwili Valley adjacent to the currently being demolished Lihue Plantation Mill.

Matt,

Is that Paulo's original boiler? What can you tell us about the design and construction of the boiler? I am interested only because Paulo is such an early engine it is fascinating to study the design and construction methods; to get into the minds of engineers and boilermakers of the era. There are always fun historic facts about early boilers. The Kahuku (12 ton Baldwin 0-4-2T) at Roaring Camp, for example, has a Baldwin built XO boiler stamped "Kingdom of Hawaii" on the steam dome next to the name of the broker that sold the boiler to the plantation.
