To keep this preservation and history related...... Back in the day, would railroads offer short excursions to nowhere as part of festive occasions? I'm not talking the mainline "club excursions" of the 30s, 40s, 50s....I'm talking something similar to these short 35-45 minute round trips down the track and back. |

The Erie Lackawanna seemed to do a lot of school trips in the early 1960's. These would not be a dedicated train but the kids taking a train one or two station stops one way and then taking a second train back a short time after arrival. Some were one way trips - Blairstown Elementary school dropped the kids off at the Blairstown station in time for the Phoebe Snow, then the school bus went to the next station stop - East Stroudsburg, to pick them up. |
