The thrice-weekly AC passenger train from Sault Ste Marie to Hearst, Ontario was scheduled to be discontinued on April 29 due to the loss of a 2.2 M federal subsidy.

A new federal grant announced on April 14 will be good until March 31 2015, at which time CN and other players are expected to come up with some kind of a survival plan for the local.

This does not affect the Agawa Canyon tour trains.

The Canadian Federal Government has extended a funding subsidy of 5.3 million dollars (Canadian) for this train for another 3 years. The money will go to the City of Sault Ste Marie, which will then give those funds to Railmark Canada. Railmark will operate the Sault to Hearst passenger service and try to make it a self-sustaining tourist attraction.
