I am looking for information on our industrial brown hoist. We are having to prep for shipment and need some mechanical information. Specifically, I need the as-built center of gravity and/or formula for calculating this. I realize the as-built numbers are not necessarily valid as the crane is NOT as delivered. However, a good basis is a starting point for determining this. Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

That was our derrick. The Western Pennsylvania Railroad Historical Society got it from Conrail. We had it running a few times on air supplied by Alco S1 7371 as it was not equipped with its own air compressor. I've been all over, under, around and through that machine many times. There is no information from IB that has center of gravity info. that I have found. I assume that is for putting it on a flatcar. Might as well split it into three parts and haul it on two flats and a semi. Just have to remove the rollers and disconnect the kingpin. Since its in New Castle I would be happy to help you figure out moving it. |

You need to know the weight on each truck. You know the CG is between the two center pins. Use the two weights of each truck to proportion the distance between the center pins. That will be the CG in the longitudinal direction. I think it is safe to assume the lateral CG is very close to the derricks center line. |

We have a very similar unit to this. Problem is, nobody knows how to operate it. Anybody have some sort of operating instructions? I have seen ours run and watched it move, but only once a few years ago. We could really use it for a few projects we have coming up. |

What way do you plan on shipping it? On its wheels, flat car, truck? The boom end of rail mounted cranes is always the lightest. You may be surprised at the difference between the two. |
