I do not think it was a station. I believe it was a freight house. |

It was built in 1884 as a New York Central passenger station, (perhaps a combination passenger/freight station) Then a new passenger station was built nearby in 1898, then it served as a NYC Freight station from 1898 into the 1960's. So it was mostly considered a "freight station"..but it also served passengers in its early days. Scot |

Oddly enough I was in this building around noontime on Saturday with a friend of mine from Rochester. He thinks it was the last building from the NYC Despatch Shops 'complex' if you want to lump it in with the shop. Floor to almost ceiling model trains. Since it was so sunny outside, I bought a couple things and we left, but I told my friend he'd have to drop me off there some rainy/snowy day for a couple of hours to really poke through all the inventory. So sad. Nick |

Just out of curiosity, how many freight and/or passenger stations have been lost to fire in the "preservation" era. The "preservation" era being defined as either after use as an actual station, or after 5/1/1971. There's the online database of extant stations (http://www.rrshs.org/), but has anyone compiled a master list of stations that have been destroyed? |

Nick Wrong on both counts! ;) It was outside of the shop complex proper, not really part of it. and if it was part of the shop complex (which it wasnt really) it wouldn't be the last building..several buildings from the shop complex still exist.
