Sometimes progress is fast, sometimes it drags along. In our case, it's hitting us pretty much at once. The Niagara Railway Museum Inc. located in the former Canadian National Railways diesel shop in Fort Erie is going to have a very busy July. This weekend, July 5 & 6 the Museum will be open from 10-4 both days, rain or shine. Displays include the NRM's steam diesel and electric locomotives, track cars, railway artifacts, and model trains. There will also be periodic demonstrations of the recently restored Whiting 2TMA Trackmobile. So that's how the month is starting off. Next week the Museum will take delivery of the cab from scrapped CN F7Au #9173. It was felt that this cab could be used as a great interpretive tool for visitors, and we look forward to having it in the shop. But the fun doesn't stop there. On July 19th, ex Atlas Steel 30" gauge Porter Fireless, currently on display at the Fort Erie Railroad Museum will be moved to our site. The unit has been acquired by the Welland Historical Museum and will see a long term loan to the NRM for display and restoration. The engine will see the indoors for the first time in 30yrs, and somehow it looks like ALL of the blueprints for the engine were saved, and cover every part of the locomotive. All this and we are still working on moving our 3 ex-CP Rail boxcars to the site, which will pretty much fill the shop when they arrive. Work around the shop has been going great too. One of our members has taken on the project of cleaning and painting the service areas, including the sand towers (yes, the towers WILL be painted as well), steps, and fuel stands. Inside, painting over old graffiti continues, and electrical and motor replacement on the main doors is continuing. Always lots going on, as it's a pretty huge project. Amazing that you were able to get a complete set of drawings for the fireless! |
