A couple of years ago we had a thread about these cars being in danger.
Fernley Nev. Equipment in Danger

I received the electronic quarterly newsletter from the Goldfield Historical Society. It included this report:
Quote:
Boxcars – We’re happy to report that the Society has taken possession of two Tonopah and Goldfield RR (T&G) boxcars and relocated them from Fernley to the Bullfrog Goldfield RR Yard in Goldfield. Thanks so much to the Fernley Preservation Society for donating them and The Central Nevada Historical Society for moving them. As you can imagine, there was a lot of work that needed to be done in preparation for their arrival. The land had to be prepared, track laid and lots of donated time needed. Thanks to all who helped. They were ordered by the T&G from the Hicks Locomotive and Car Works in 1905 and are the only known remaining T&G and Hicks boxcars. They will be repainted and re-lettered this year.

Two other box cars were brought to town from Fernley. The Elite Trading Post, owned by Malek & Jody Davarpanah, brought in a UP box car which now stands proudly on the south side of their building. They also acquired a 1902 railroad signal bridge which will be on display soon. The Goldfield Gift Shop owned by Dominic & Lisa Pappalardo brought in an 1890’s Nevada Copper Belt box car. This was definitely train month for Goldfield!

It was mentioned at the last meeting that since we now have a locomotive and two box cars at the railyard, that we need a sign on the highway pointing to the Bullfrog Goldfield RR Yard. Everyone thought that was a good idea and will be looked into further.
I think the UP box car is of a more modern design. The locomotive in the picture is a 0-6-0 of US Army origin that has no prior connection to Nevada. The structure going up behind the cars is a recreation of one of the several engine houses in Goldfield during its mining boom when there were three railroads (and a switching line) serving this mining camp.

Good news! Thank you for sharing it.

I am glad to hear that the cars got saved and got to stay in an area that is relevant to their history.

I love stories like this. Great job all around with results that serve to better interpretation of the artifacts.

Great news about the box cars saved from the Fernley, Nevada museum. But it's also terrific that the 1902 signal bridge was also preserved. Hopefully, they will find an appropriate signal that can eventually be added to the display of the bridge.

If you were wondering about the 0-6-0T in the photo here is its info. According to the Conrad books and the California State Railroad Museum roster of 1999 they bought Army 0-6-0T #5014 from the Tombstone Junction in Kentucky for parts. That loco was Army #5014, Porter c/n 7488, blt Nov 1942 with 16 1/2 x 24 inch cylinders and 54 inch drivers. The loco was one of two Army 0-6-0Ts that the Tombstone Junction attraction bought to use on its track laid out in a phony western town it set up near Cumberland Falls in KY. They were unable to handle trains on their steeply graded track and were just placed on exhibit until it closed after two fires. An 0-6-0 with a tender took the train duties. CSRM bought the loco in 1995 as they had another from a different source that was in running order. Kyle Wyatt from the museum has confirmed this data.
