Who can make custom railroad wheels of approximately streetcar size? I was thinking along the lines of who can still make wide tread PCC wheels and who made new new wheels for the Ft. Collins Birney. Any help would be appreciated.

Pennsylvania Trolley Museum's restoration of West Penn Railways car 832, as done in part by Brookville Equipment, utilized custom made 22" wheels replicating the exact design of 832's original wheels. These were supplied by the McKees Rocks Forging division of Trinity Industries, located in McKees Rocks, PA (Pittsburgh metro area). Previous PTM restorations have also used wheels from this supplier.

Ajax Rolled Ring & Machine imposed a large minimum order for "one off" wheels a few years ago.

They might have changed with the economy, but be prepaired for them to not want your business.

McKees Rocks Forgings made eight, new 33" dia. streetcar wheels with 3" tread for our ex-TTC heavy track plough, #TP-11, several years ago. I was very pleased with the results.

Some of the larger firms we contacted at the time were not interested in small orders.
