The Liberty White Railroad. Once operated both standard and narrow gauge at the same time. Cut back a number of times and finally completely abandoned in the early 1930's. Ever hear of it? I hadn't. As explained in another thread, I recently had a chance to ride Amtrak's "City of New Orleans" and upon going through Summit, Mississippi, I noted that they had nicely preserved their old ICRR depot. Except, that ain't the case at all! Checked the internet and it turns out the original Summit IC depot had been torn down. The old depot from the fore mentioned Liberty-White Railroad in New Holmesville, MS, on a line that was abandoned through there in 1918, was still just sitting in the weeds and trees on private White family property. The Summit Historical Society contacted the family and a deal was worked out and the long abandoned station was moved to the location of the old IC depot. Amazing what you can see if you look out your train window! Wish I had been able to get a photo. Maybe some RyPN reader might have one, or take one if they wander on by Summit some day.
