Post subject:  The Fireless arrives, again!!

The Niagara Railway Museum Inc.(finally) took delivery of their 1943 built Porter Fireless locomotive. The locomotive was used at Atlas Steel in Welland, Ont. until going to the Fort Erie Railroad Museum in 1984. The locomotive is built to 30" gauge, and has no cab. There is also an ingot car included. The locomotive was loaded a couple weeks ago, but the constant wet weather prevented the move from taking place until today. The unit no longer fit in with the Museum collection and was on the verge of being scrapped. Through a partnership with the Welland Historical Museum we were able to save this rare artifact of Niagara railway and industrial heritage.

The reason the subject says arrives again is because this is the second time the locomotive has been through our shop. When it was first sent to Fort Erie it came in by CN flatcar and was unloaded at our shop. Now, it has come full circle and now calls the CN diesel shop home. Pics of the move (more will be added later) can be found at http://nfrm.ca/blog/
