Post subject:  Preserved Second Generation Diesels?

Since in the past we have done extensive listings of 2 bay hoppers, etc, I figured I would put one together about these. As more and more of the younger (my) generation start to take over some museum's, I imagine we are going to be seeing more "modern" things start to be preserved. The steam engine, and GP7 will always have a museum spot, but now that the EMD SD40, GE B boats, etc are coming to the end of there life on the rails, who is going to be the spotlight for preserving these? Many people may not think much of these, but to the 15-20 year old railfan, this is what THEY grew up with, and are going to want to see preserved, so here is what I put together so far.. Anyone please feel free to add. I don't know if there is an official year to start this, but I figured anything late 1960's and on. Note, I did not add any Alcos to this listing, I think those are well documented..

Not much in the form of U-Boats. I know of two U-25B's, possibly listed, but what a huge hole!

U25B: about 6, possibly 7.

NYC: 2
SP: 1
MILW: 1 (2?)
NH: 1

And I think that's it.

...among others. Ed gets VERY little credit for his efforts. After all, he's not really a museum...

Well Ed does a good job of saving stuff. The aforementioned L&N locomotive was owned by one museum and on display at another before it was sold to a recycler.

Right, the L&N unit was the one I was trying to remember!

Glad to learn of more of the baby U-Boats. I always thought they were fine looking Diesels.

N&W 522 is getting a brake overhaul right now. After the work is complete it will be traveling to another museum for a performance as a "guest locomotive".
