 Post subject: More MOT Project Info

Thanks to all for the kind words about the work being done in St. Louis. I've updated the site yet again, adding photos of the work now underway on the DM&IR 2-10-2, Illinois Terminal Class C, and repainting of the Philly PCC. Something for steam and electric fans as well. We've also had to empty one of our exhibit tracks that was built on landfill and was sinking under the New York Central 4-8-2. Of course it was at the far end of the disconnected track, which will be rebuilt later this year. We're not sure what will go on it yet, or in what order, but the MILW Bi-Polar, IT Class B, NYC S-motor and Mohawk are in new temporary locations. If you want a different photo of them now is the time to visit.

Couple questions Ron;

What will the status be regarding 1522? Will Steam Train return her to MOT or will they just sit on her?

About those display tracks - I always figured one way to keep things interesting was to shuffle the displays around a couple times a year so different pieces would get up front exposure. This keeps it new and provides motivation for local potential supporters to show up more often. I haven't worked it out yet, but I thought planning and publishing a schedule of what would be prominently and photographably displayed at what time frames would encourage additional visitation as well. Have you considered it?

Better still, as long as you're moving the NYC Mohawk, why not move her into the shop and rebuild her for operations? Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Given what Ron has shown us lately, I don''t worry about the MOT Mohawk. Now the girl in Elkhart, she could use some cover!

I saw her a few weeks ago, but didn't get the chance for an upclose and personal interview.

We talk about rarities on this board, and I dare say these few remainders of the once great NYC fleet are among the rarest of all.

I don't know that I need to see one run, but I would love to hear about plans to arrest decay on both of these relics, especially the outdoor Elkhart lady.

For all of us post card collectors out there; the museum is selling 4 new cards of their traction equipment. Including a PCC in modern, SEPTA colors, and before in St Louis paint. They are great cards. First new cards from the MOT in amny years!

And the new cab and paint on the Lackawana camalback looks wonderful. Would make a great post card!

Ron,

How lovely to see 502 under a roof and protected and undergoing restoration. I fell completely in love with this locomotive last fall when I visited MOT. We took lots of pictures of her sitting on the yard tracks and I'll be posting some of them on my website along with many of the other pictures we shot.Looks like you folks are doing lots of good work there, kudos to you for all your effort.Great job!
