Post subject:  Celebrating Labor Day on the Pennsylvania Railroad

On a weekend that for many of us symbolizes the end of summer a significant milestone was reached on the Pennsylvania Railroad on September 1st, 1849. Have a safe and healthy Labor Day weekend!

Considering the topography of western Pennsylvania, this was a pretty impressive piece of civil engineering for 1849. I think it would be interesting to compare this to the Baltimore & Ohio's westward route which, from my understanding, conquered comparable if not exceedingly difficult terrain.
