Didn't want to intrude on the recent thread on the neat "Antique 4-6-4" locomotive model, but it reminded me of this engine which is on display at the Lynnville Railroad Museum in Lynnville, Tennessee. Although no Illinois Central 2600 class 4-8-2's were preserved, this is certainly a nice stand in.

Is that a "live steamer," or just an extremely well-done model??

I've always thought that models, when properly presented, are a good teaching and display tool.

I always liked the models on display in the Smithsonian's Railroad Hall. I know such displays aren't "hip" nor "cool" these days, but I liked it.

Similar to the service provided by the rivet counters in the live steam community. Check out Dave Sclavi's PRR K4s, #1361, currently being displayed at the PSRM.

Great model! But I would have numbered it 2613 after the last one to operate and the one that pulled L&N's 100th Anniversary train in 1959 plus two ICRR excursions out of Louisville in 1960.

The tender from 2614 survived until fairly recently up in Rockford, Illinois. Had a friend who attempted to save it from finally being scrapped, but unfortunately, was not successful.
