Located within the Huckleberry RR shop, the caboose was restored for use as a drafting office.

The Huckleberry is a 3' gauge operation on what had been a standard gauge CSX branch near Flint, MI. It is part of the Genesee County park system.

From a couple of emails from Brian Osmer who did most of the work;

"There is the controversy about this caboose not existing. It was written off the inventory in 1940 as being scrapped. Actually it was given to Judge McCarthy and transported to his place in Utah. The DRGW maintained it there till the 80's. It was donated to the Huck in 1987, which is where it has sat inside out of sight of the public.... Thinking back about this caboose, I don't think it has ever spent a night outside since it arrived at the Huck."

"....D&RGW caboose #0526 is back together again. I took it on as part time project 2 1/2 years ago. I told the super that I could have back together in two years working on it as time permitted. The deputy director came to me 1/1/2 years into it and wanted me to make it a priority project so as to use it for a drafting office. The interior was to remain historically correct (no extra holes, lighting, etc.) The only deviation is that the bunk did not get put in on one side. I put in two file cabinets (bridged) with doubled plywood across them and they had an office. I have routed in electricity, internet service and it now has a portable a/c unit. No holes were drilled for any of this. Everything is clipped on. I had it done in a year and nine months. Painted inside and out and reroofed."
