Does anyone still make ankle safety straps, the type worn by railroaders?

1 inch by 26 inches, I don't want to meet up with the guy who needs that size ankle safety straps!LOL I think they may be for some other purpose than what the original poster asked about.

I think the 1" x 26" is for attaching pole climbing "spurs" to your boots. They are listed under the "pole maintenance" section.

I do have some of the elastic ones (with a simple snap connection) marked with the Penn Central logo (from my father). They where meant to keep open pants legs from "snagging" on switch stands, railings, ladder ends, etc. But they where also dang handy for keeping the snow outside of your pant legs when walking to school in the winter (uphill both ways, of course, ha ha ha).

Thanks!

Thier phone is still connected. I left a message and followed up with an email.

Sadly, he was the only source for the person looking for an authentic conductor uniform. I've tried to get in touch with Aramark, the makers of the uniforms for Metra Conductors, to no avail.

another use today is to prevent deer tick from infecting you, many times your duties take us thru hi grass and brush in yards and right of ways, while performing air test and walking trains

Thats the only photo I could find.

Wearing a substatial strap like that one in the photo, if snagged, would guarantee your death. I expected to see the weakest piece of "trap" fiber ever sewn togeother to make up that strap.

Someone find a better photo....

A friend just gave me a set of safety-reflector white ones issued on the EJ&E prior to the CN takeover. They are velcro, which I imagine would tear apart if a serious snag occurred.

I'll get pictures. I will also check the maker's tag and see if they are still produced, perhaps in non-reflectorized versions.

Bike and sporting goods suppliers may be the best source now. Just a few:

http://www.jandd.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=FANK

http://www.impaccycle.com/html/0608_ankle_strap.html

http://www.mec.ca/product/4001-405/cactus-creek-scotchlite-ankle-strap/

http://www.rei.com/product/631128/nathan-3m-reflective-ankle-band

http://www.bikebling.com/Jandd-Ankle-Strap-p/jandd-anklestrap.htm

http://www.ion-products.com/water/men/accessories/other-accessories/velcro-ankle-straps/

I used to have a nice Velcro pair from CN and would love to find another pair.

They kept my pant cuffs well under control, but one time caught on something as I stepped off the locomotive. The Velcro released, rather than making me trip. Far safer than a leather strap with a buckle.

The ex-EJ&E ones I have are made by Infinity Products, which is around and still in business.

Best of yet, they are on the internet, and still sell ankle straps:

As an aside, the Chessie System for years sold "surplus" of their company issue "Chessie System--Safety First" elastic ankle bands through their B&O Museum gift shop and mail order. A set of those kept down the bicycle grease stains on my pants cuffs through my college years, though probably raising my "dork factor" simultaneously (as if I cared). I think my girlfriend at the time may have even ended up with one of them.......
