Post subject: | Coale 3" safety valves |
I am looking for drawings for Coale 3" d or F valves. Specifically I am looking for a drawing that is full scale. I had this drawing at one time and it showed full scale cut-away. Even though no internal dimensions were shown the spring washers were shown full view. From this I can scale off the drawing to machine new washers. If anyone has any drawings Please email or PM. Thanks bobk |

I have found several items related to Coale valves. ARR 556 uses one muffled and one unmuffled 3" valve (I believe they are type D). Among the information I found is complete dimensioned drawings for a somewhat different 3" design by Coale used on the Tasmanian Railroad. In comparing them our safety valves, it appears that many of the internal parts may be interchangeable. The Tasmanian archives also listed drawings for a 2" Coale safety valve, but I didn't get a copy of that one. I'll be glad to share what I have on the Coale valves and welcome any additional information. The PRR apparently used Coale valves around 1915, but the sizes I found reference to were 2-1/2", 3-1/4", 3-12/", 4", 4-1/2", and 5", but not 3". It would be interesting to see if PRR produced any drawings for wear parts on the 3" type D valves. Dick Morris Anchorage, Alaska |
