The Museum of the American Railroad in Frisco, Texas has received its second CF7:

The second historic diesel-electric locomotive retired from the Midlothian cement plant has arrived at the Museum of the American Railroad in Frisco, where it will be used as an educational resource.

The cement plant’s locomotive No. 2447 arrived safely this past weekend, thanks to the efforts of the BNSF. The railroad donated the cost to move the 250,000-pound machine to Frisco on its own wheels.

In January, the museum received CF7 #2428:

Museum president and CEO Bob LaPrelle said he was alerted by a scrap metal buyer who thought the locomotives should be saved. “I made some calls, and they worked out a deal and agreed to donate them,” he said of TXI.....According to museum officials, General Motors built engine No. 2428 in 1953 and sold it to Santa Fe railroad, which put it into service pulling freight trains throughout the Southwest. It was one of 200 pieces re-manufactured in 1977 at Santa Fe’s Cleburne, Texas, shops that became known as ”Cleburne Rebuilds” or CF-7s. They were known for their ruggedness and reliability.

No. 2428 was retired in 1984 and sold to Texas Industries, which used the engine for plant service for the next three decades. The engine recently retired from TXI’s Hunter facility in New Braunfels.

Congratulations. And, thanks to the Big New Santa Fe for donating the move. Good all the way around.
