Richard M Hinebaugh (1921-2014). He was one of the founders of the Mid-Continent Railway Museum on North Freedom, WI in 1959. He also was the founder of the Kettle Moraine Railway (1972-2001) of North Lake, WI. He introduced a whole generation of us to maintaining and operating steam locomotives in the late 70's and 80's.

Didn't know Mr. Hinebaugh at all, but the two operations speak for themselves and are a good legacy.

RIP Richard. He was quite a guy and was a mover and a shaker. He knew how to make things happen. He was truly a unique person. I only remember him as a kid and young teenager when his locomotive/equipment was still at Mid Continent. A few years back in a restaurant in Houghton, MI, we had some good laughs sharing our stories of early Mid Continent and Kettle Moraine. A young person hanging around Richard received an education you could get no where else. Truly a unique person to have known. To Steve and family, my condolences. Regards, John.

Didnt know him, but did hear a lot about him. I know the KM was beset on all sides by NIMBYs that moved in after his operation was well established. Does anyone know if his equipment is safe?
