Was wondering, on diesels and rolling stock with friction bearings, how do you support the axle when using a portable wheel lathe? Only thing I can think of is pull the waste/journal pad, insert a filler block and spare brass under the axle then lift with a jack under the journal box (thus there is a solid block between the jack head and the axle brass). Any better way (short of removing axles from under the equipment) to do this? Rich C. |

You jack under the traction motor axle bearing caps, plain bearings or otherwise. |
