Just a question, I understand there was a doner MLW BCOL M420B used for the prime mover on this unit. Does anyone know if there is anything left of this doner M420B? Is it still on site at the museum/organization?? Any information would be great, please PM me. Corey |

This is how little was left of it in 2004: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=69570 I'm certainly not optimistic. On a side note, the rosters at RRPictureArchives show that of the eight built, no fewer than five succumbed to wrecks, including 688, the one McCormack bought. |

I cant see any of its remains left.... im sure its been scrapped, the only thing id like to get my hands on would be the chunk of sheet metal which says "RCL 688". The only thing salvageable would be the trucks. If anyone has any more info, or a contact let me know. Thanks again! |

I wonder if Doyle refers to it as a PA-1. Technically, when Morrison-Knudsen rebuilt them in 1974, they were reclassified as "PA-4s" since they had 251 prime movers, upgraded electrical equipment, etc. |

Maybe his should be a PA-4-2. Or even a PA-5. |

Norman Anderson and Chris MacDermot wrote a book titled PA4 Locomotive (ISBN Number 0-89685-035-8) that was published by Chatham Publishing in June 1978. According to the book, Anderson was employed at Morrison-Knudsen in Boise while MacDermot was the D&H's Assistant Chief Mechanical Officer. If the term "PA4" was good enough for them, that it is good enough for me! |
