This will be our first major project under our non profit name 'High Plains Railroad Preservation Association' its a gem of a building and rare, built in 1879 for the opening of the Burlington and Missouri River RR line from Sterling To Cheyenne, it sat behind the B&MR roundhouse on 15th street (opposite Big Boy in Holiday Park). We have long suspected its origins to be railroad and now have it confirmed through deeds and ICC valuation reports....the freight car red siding helps too ! We have been given this building and are working with the city and architects to find a new home for this important structure. Pictures here.... http://car57.zenfolio.com/p1018608972/h ... #h1deba6ce Mike Pannell |

Looks very much like my first house. Complete with a lot of work and no insulation. Very interesting windows. The attic/roof to me looks newer construction, maybe? Two of my old houses had the fake brick asphalt rolled siding/square shingles on them. I hated that stuff but now find it kind of nostalgic. Great piece of local history and easily salvageable by the pictures. Is this area compatible with restoring where is? Without a historical site nearby for it to go to it might be easier to leave intact rather than move it. Hope the plans work out for it regardless. Thanks for sharing this, find it interesting. Regards, John. |
