Post subject:  Plumbing Steam Lines Single Stage Air Compressor, Knorr

We are installing a tandem single cylinder Knorr-Bremse (Berlin) air pump like the one pictured. This pump has been overhauled and tested great. All of the copper/brass is new, because it was victim to metal scavengers some years ago.

All this is great, except when we went to fit the cylinder jacket, it wouldn't fit. There are two copper lines with flared fittings at each end, like pictured, that run in the cavity under the jacket. They are the steam passage and control steam for the lower half of the cylinder. The compression nuts and steam lines conflict with the location of the jacket.

The pump has been disassembled for a long time. I am not convinced that the lines and fittings are correct for this application. With the current fittings, I see no way they can be positioned within the clearance of the jacket.

Does anyone know what the fittings and line path should be under this jacket? Are the fittings special short size to fit in close quarters? Should they be flare, or should they be compression fittings?

I have several pages on Knorr pumps, including one that looks like yours with a 210 mm steam cylinder. It has a number of drawings and the text is in German. I can't tell if your fitting is shown. Send your email address and I'll scan and send you a copy.

Yes, I will contact you, but for those reading I am looking for information on the fittings behind the steam jacket.

I am not too familiar with the Knorr plumbing, but looking at my data f.i.:
http://www.bremsenbude.de/seiten/luftpumpe08.htm
it looks as if your steam entry is just too short, there is more length between
your number 1 and 3
kind regards
