The REPAIR Group, LLC is trying to locate photos of the RED Alco that's at NRE in Paducah. Prefer photos shot in last 5 years. Any views; long hood or short hood forward, full side views, close-up detail shots, etc.....
We are trying to acquire and preserve this locomotive and the photos will help our BOD in making the decision a lot easier.
Anyone with mechanical knowledge of this locomotive is requested to contact the group to answer questions regarding the mechanics of the 8006.
Send all inquiries, photos or information to: therepairgroup@yahoo.com
Thank you in advance,

Your post has interested me. When you say it's a "RED" Alco, are you referring to it by color? What is the model number? Where did it run? Do you know how long it has been at NRE?

Just curious, last time I drove by the facility, I didn't see an Alco, but their "back yard" is rather huge, and weed-grown.

Not to sound smart but wouldn't the logical approach be to contact NRE directly and ask them about the mechanical history and possibly schedule a visit to inspect said unit. What might your plan be if you do get the locomotive?

Only photo I've found so far from June of this year.

Looks like a RSD-1 at least judging by the cab profile and number of journal boxes.

Guys,
Those that sent photos or information, THANK YOU !!
We were able to collect a few photos from NRE that showed the loco in better detail.
Now, to get the old rusty relic out of NRE and on to it's new home and eventually running again.
Thanks again,
Hugh

Has anyone heard anything more about this project? The user that posted this has not logged on since Nov. 2010 and has yet to answer an email to the listed yahoo account. A google search has not turned up anymore information on this. Wondering if this locomotive got scrapped.

I don't know about the Alco's status, but Hugh Cain died over a year ago. Here's his obituary:

I was never able to find out what exactly happened. Reportedly he died as the result of a fall but I have no other details.
