http://www.ky3.com/news/local/theives-k ... 8_30902960 Quote: SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - For more than ten years the Joplin-Springfield Railway has offered rides on its miniature trains, complete with all the bells and whistles. But last week thieves broke in and stole exactly that -- the trains' bells and whistles. "The whistle mount is right here, they unscrewed that," said owner Dave Holberg. The bell was bolted in there and they unscrewed that. The whistles and bells are over 50 years old and very hard to get." The thieves didn't stop at just taking equipment, they also took several light fixtures and railroad crossing signs that lined the way along the rails " More at the link. |

Quote: The whistles and bells are over 50 years old and very hard to get. I took a look at the video. The first thing I noticed was just how nice this little railroad looks. Well maintained right of way, well ballasted track, water tower, gallows turntable, enginehouse, all appearing in great condition. I was really impressed. The second thing I noticed was the locomotives. They appear to be stock Chance C.P. Huntington locomotives. If that is correct, and I'm pretty certain it is, the only difficult thing about getting new bells and whistles is writing the check. They should be off the shelf stock items. Yes, this sucks. Yes, it's an expense they shouldn't have to bear. Yes, there's some sentimental value in the old ones, especially if they're that old. The one fortunate thing is that fixing this should be easy. |
