Some months ago I had a little teaser in one of my postings...took a little time to get things wrapped and delivered but here it is... A change in my employment in late 2007 resulted in my having to curtail association and volunteer efforts at Heber Valley Railroad. Since then my interests and efforts have centered on some smaller projects. One of these projects involves a torpedo/fusee box of Lehigh New England heritage that was sold on in an online auction some 10 to 12 years ago. The auction had some photos and the seller provided the overall dimensions in the description. Using a contact lens reticule magnifier and generating some ratios, I created some 1:2 drawings on 1/4" graph paper. These were transferred to wood and cut out. The pieces were joined using glue and the Kreg pocket joinery system with the pocket holes being filled and sanded smooth. The mounting brackets were fabricated from some 2" angle iron, cut, shaped on a grinder and drilled/countersunk for NOS flat head slotted screws obtained from another online auction seller. The following three photos are of the original auction item, the drawing, and box parts before assembly.

Continuing the project photos...the assembled box, the builder with the box, and Mike Lewis of Wasatch Railroad Contractors presenting the box to Mike Pannell for use in one of his caboose restorations (or however he sees fit).
