How are the heritage railways in the northeast bearing out the blizzard? Any major incidents? Is it preventing normal winter work? Any disruption in operations? Or is it just a matter of waiting for the sun? |

Not much in the way of snow in Eastern PA, Central NJ and the like. Maybe further north and west there were issues, but not much here. |

Amtrak is having problems west of Chicago this evening where trains are losing an hour between Princeton (IL) and Kewanee (IL). Earlier, #4 and #6 ran through with no problems while #3 and #5 lost some time. They have cancelled the Monday morning trains between Chicago and Quincy (IL). Most other passenger trains are running okay in and out of Chicago. Freights seem to have run all day but BNSF has been trying to avoid parking anything in a siding. O'Hare and Midway at Chicago cancelled most flights today, about 2000 total. |

Pennsylvania Trolley Museum takes the simple approach to blizzard operations. We don't. No scheduled operations from mid-December until the beginning of our annual Easter event. Charters are possible during this period, subject to weather interruptions. The favored vehicle is the all-electric PCC, no air system to deal with. But plenty happens during this time, mostly inside the nice warm shop but trackwork happens too. Come around and see what's going on. |

The most active work days at PTM are Wednesdays and Saturdays, with the latter being generally more diverse and better attended. |

Branford (Connecticut) Electric Rwy. Ass'n. - Shore Line Trolley Museum does have an operating snow plow and members living nearby who compete to be the lucky ones to open the line for charters and late season operations. I have stayed overnight on snowy weekends in December, and you have to get up very early in the morning to get a chance of being able to help clear the line. |

PTM has designed a plow to be fitted to our 1953 GE 25 tonner. We are now fund raising to cover the cost. The plows will be fabricated by one of the premier makers of such equipment. If any other organization that ownes a 1945 or later GE 25 tonner is interest in getting in on our deal, contact PTM (www.pa-trolley.org) for further information. This vendor also has a design that should fit the pre-1945 GE 23 and 25 tonners. |

Here at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum, we run year round except for two weekend after Christmas. It was during this time that we were hammered by the great blizzard in Campo. We pushed through it and ran the next weekend as scheduled!
