The most interesting thing about this train to me was that its Washington, D.C. to Cincinnati, Ohio route included the present day CSX Mountain Subdivision and it ran on a 12 hour schedule. Impressive! |

Great piece of film, but the sound track of music is just silly. I suggest watching it with your speakers turned off. Ron |

Agreed on the music. IMO that train was one of the most attractive attempts at streamlining. Very tasteful. |

one car in the film still exists ....for now outside Philadelphia, PA just for FYI. Car is still at the Coach Inn along with another B&O car for now. Thomas W. Dixon's book 'Baltimore and Ohio's Cincinnatian' published in 2008 indicates that Combination Baggage/Lounge car #1308 Hyde Park was retired in 1964 and sold to the Coach Inn in Fort Washington, PA http://rr-fallenflags.org/bo/bo-c1308r.jpg |

Was this filmed in Silver Spring, MD? The r/w with the bridge in the background (looking east toward DC) looks familiar from this location. Wesley |

The B&O placed a display ad in the Washington Post on January 9, 1947 to announce the trainset would be displayed at Silver Spring on Sunday, January 12, 1947 from 9 am -5 pm. Wesley |

Yes, this is Silver Spring. Where this siding was is now occupied by the downtown S. S. fire station. Just want to add my thumbs-up to the streamlining of P-7d #5301, formerly the President Adams. Possibly my favorite U. S. streamlined steam locomotive styling (I am partial to blue). What a great live steam model this would be (probably a maintenance nightmare, but great to look at). |
