Post subject:  A few old boxcars in Ohio
Someone photographed these two in Ohio several years ago. I wonder if the cars are still there?

WM 26634 is still at Ginn Grain Company 132 W North St, Sidney, OH 45365 where it has been for decades.

It appears that the remnants of a late NYC herald is bleeding through on the right side.....

In addition to the NYC herald that Mr. Mitchel sees, the car appears to be an AAR "standard" 50 footer, with "W-post" Dreadnaught ends and a so-called "Murphy" roof. The end design does not look like the earlier "square post Dreadnaught" ends of about 1936, nor the "improved Dreadnaught" of the postwar era, which suggests a construction date prior to 1945, and perhaps as early as 1937. (All this is from memory, if I'm wrong, I won't argue with you. . .) I'm guessing it has an inside height of 10 feet, 6 inches, based on the 10 major ribs in the ends.

It would have been a very typical car of this type, though it could be considered a find today!

Beyond this, you're going to need a car number and a roster. . .

Well put, Jay Three Ay. Part of the joy one can find in the preservation work of the HVRM, RMNE, SRI and a handful of others is the celebration of the mundane house car. For me, the more typical the steam or transition era boxcar, the more interesting it is.

So, being a nuisance, does anyone know if the Western Maryland car is "available" and if so, at perhaps what cost and what the difficulty might be in loading/trucking to central West Virginia? This is a slightly hypothetical question at the moment, but I ask because a project that I am very loosely affiliated with may be considering a WM boxcar or two to pair with a former-WM freighthouse for display and roofed space expansion. If the project would begin moving again, it would be nice to have an idea of what's out there, and an original WM car would be preferable to something painted to resemble. On the other hand, reasonable east coast roads would not be too much of stretch, but historic photos seem to indicate that most traffic on this branch (End of the WM line in the south) was captive. Thanks in advance!

I think I see some NYC jade green showing through on that one too. After you posted about the jade green NYC E8 last friday, I've started kind of liking that color.

Western Maryland car was still in Sidney in October 2014.
