Post subject:  Old caboose (buggy) bodies in Ohio

"Rock Island Line's" cool thread on abandoned boxcars in Ohio triggered an old thought.

60+ years ago the Boston & Maine contracted with the International Car Co. of Kenton, OH to rebuild a group of wood side SUF buggies into all steel cars.

My friend, the late Tim Gilbert, spent a lot if time researching B&M buggies ( many of the cabooses on the surviving LNE list were id'd by Tim... they were sold to the B&M). One of the neatest things Tim reported on before his untimely death was the batch of B&M caboose bodies scattered about the Kenton, OH area. It seems that rather than turn the wood B&M buggy bodies to kindling, International sold a bunch off for local needs. This lead to quite a number of wood caboose bodies in the Kenton, OH area.

It has been awhile since Tim passed on and I was wondering if any of our Ohio RYPN bretheren have kept tabs on these relics. Are there any updates on the buggies of Kenton?

Rob

PS: Yes, there are plenty of the steel rebuilds around, so if anyone wanted to marry an old wood carbody to a frame, it could be done.
