As part of our ongoing interior restoration of the Union Pacific 369/3669 dining car at Travel Town, we need to replace at least two of the glass "globes" (is that the correct term).

The light fixture includes a steel tube mounted to the ceiling with a brass collar at the bottom witch screws down to compress a ring of "fingers" which clamp onto a formed ring in the glass globe itself.

Since I'm sure our diner isn't the only one left in existence that used this style of light I'm posting this here to see who else might use this kind of fixture, and if you've needed to find replacements what did you do?

They can make them out of plastic.

We might even prefer that, but do you have a "They" in mind?

I'm not 100% sure how large this lamp is. The datasheet is a little confusing. Is the white glass diffuser 10" or 15-3/4" diameter? If you're interested, I suggest calling them to be sure.

Try your Home Depot or Lowes and ask them where you can find the correct globe as they will have resources for replacement glass. Or, go to a good lamp shop as they may have other resources. Don't settle for a plastic or non similar globe. Yours looks similar to the schoolhouse style globes.

Have tried the local HD and Lowes. The folks here don't even seem to know what a ceiling light is. I'm exagerating a bit of course, but as a rule they seem to be next to worthless.

That does look promising. It means we would have to replace all the lights, but that might still be cheaper than having custom ones made.

Besides the #369/#3669 at Travel Town, there are at least 12 modernized or streamlined heavyweight UP diners (in several configurations) which are owned by various museums and shortlines and at least 1 car still owned by UP. There is another diner located in Elbe, WA, lettered for the Mt. Rainier Railroad Dining Company as MRSX #481 and named Lewis. This might be one of the cars listed above as status unknown, or another car altogether. This car is currently stored with 2 of the Erie cars from the American Freedom Train; the last lubrication date stenciled on the kitchen-end truck (with a mix of Hyatt and Timken rollers) is 6/21/1997, Mount Rainier Scenic RR (MRSR), Mineral, WA. The Armour Yellow paint is underneath the current off-red dip (the reflective Signal Red stripes in particular can be seen, as the red paint on top is starting to crack), but I didn't look up close for or see any signs of the car's former UP number. Some of the outer panes of the double pane Adlake windows have been broken and there is side sill rust.
