No children under 5. We are pleased to announce that RailsNW will once again be arranging a steam train excursion to Salmonberry, Oregon this fall, continuing an ongoing tradition of arranging unique charter experiences using vintage train equipment on scenic routes within the Pacific Northwest. Traveling on tracks that rarely see steam powered service, you will be treated to stunning coastal and canyon scenery in this very full day onboard our signature Oregon Coast Crawler. Journeying northward and then inland on the Port of Tillamook Branch Line out of the picturesque fishing village of Garibaldi, our custom charter will pass beside Tillamook and Nehalem Bays and make a brief stop in bayside Wheeler en route to our final destination of Salmonberry at the confluence of the Salmonberry and Nehalem Rivers. Our scenery will switch as we traverse the rails through the dramatic and not easily accessible Nehalem Canyon. On the return trip, a quick service stop is made in Rockaway Beach, affording a brief chance for a glimpse of the Pacific Ocean in this All-American beach town. The highlight of your day is likely to be a stunning sunset over Tillamook Bay as we return after an adventure on the rails. This unique trip using the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad's McCloud #25 locomotive, an engine featured in the movie 'Stand By Me', offers a rare chance to enjoy the spectacular Oregon coast and Nehalem River canyon at a slow pace, perfect for enjoying the varied scenery of Oregon. Several stops will be made for the purposes of photography and the trainset includes an open-air car with outdoor seating. A boxed lunch is provided to complete a full day of fun and adventure. For the railfan and casual rider alike, the Oregon Coast Crawler is sure to please. Space on this incredible experience is limited to only 120 riders and it is virtually guaranteed to sell out. FWIW, a friend & I had the opportunity last May to take this trip & ended up having ourselves a really enjoyable day. All facets of the trip were pretty well thought out & handled well. The catered lunch was a cut or two above the rest, it was that good. Because of limited access, photo opportunites are somewhat limited, but the ones that we had worked out just fine. Give this some thought, some rare mileage here. |
