Figured someone on here might be interested... Right now, my brother Ryan is trying to find a home for my late Grandfather's two Cat D7 dozers, of 1949 and 1955 vintage respectively. They're both cable-blade machines. On the newer machine, the undercarriage has roughly 50 hours on it since it was rebuilt, with (supposedly) the final drives and clutches gone through at the same time. The older one has relatively low hours on the chains and sprocket rings with good rollers. However, at the time both of the pony motors are giving trouble, but Ryan is trying to get them running (he's thinking it might be something minor). He'd rather not see them scrapped, so if someone, whether it be a museum or heritage line has a need for them, have at em'. We just want to have them both out by August and on the way to a good home. If anyone's interested, shoot me a PM.

You may want to post this at the Historic Contruction Equipment Association site:

http://www.hcea.net/ This is a group that preserves all manner of construction equipment, and would certainly take interest in a pair of D7 Cats. I would suspect they also would find homeless railroad cranes of interest too (though I won't guarantee that their members would necessarily be able to take one in in any given instance).

Apparently all wants/sells should be directed to the classified section of the site, lest there be any confusion.

+1 on posting on HCEA. I'm a long-time member; my dad was a heavy equipment operator. His employer operated a couple of D-7's of about that vintage the whole time I was growing up. I'll post a link to this thread on their Facebook page; that might help generate a little interest.

Dylan,

Also check this site: http://www.acmoc.org/

You should check with them before posting them for sale. They may restrict that to a classified ad section. But otherwise, you could surely get the information necessary to get the pony engines running. With good undercarriages, there is good market for them. They may be worth a lot more than scrap value.

Here is another site: http://www.heavyequipmentforums.com/

ACMOC is another good site.

Dylan, I've got two guys on the HCEA Facebook page who are interested in these machines. I'll PM their e-mail addresses if you'd like to contact them.

I just wanted to give an update, but as of today both machines are spoken for.

Hopefully they're going to good homes.

I'd say that they are. The gents that came down can move them both, and will have them out by August. Now I just have to worry about the crawl loader, crane truck, the countless tools... You get the idea.
