Re: the thread on Klez virus: I seldom prescribe solutions for other people, but... Anyone who runs a computer that doesnt have Anti-Virus software on it is just yearning for trouble. And dont forget up update the virus definitions! Additionally, since there are a number of broadband users out there who are connected 7 x 24, get yourself some firewall software as well. There is a FREE (A word to make even Lathrop's face wrinkle up in a smile ) firewall program available froom Zone Labs. ( there are others and I'm not endorsing or associated with them, etc.) Nothing is fool proof if you possess enough fool, however you can plumb these things to alert you anytime something goes in or out, and you can control against external attack as well as your own box mailing out stuff without you knowing it. Hardware firewall protection ( eg a smart router) is also a great piece of insurance against internet malaise. Like a belt and suspenders, as it can work in conjunction with your software firewall. And for the procrastinators among you, remember that when your hard-drive suddenly goes limp, you will remember everything that is not backed-up and wet your pants looking for ways to get your data back. There are a some firms that *can* do hard drive restoration , for very, very Large money. Otherwise your computer becomes just another hard-to-recycle item. OK, back to low-tech...
