Anybody in the market for Milwaukee log cars? Simpson Timber Co. of Shelton, WA has just sold their mill. They shut down their railroad about two years ago but have been holding it just in case. They have about 50 ex-Milwaukee 58000 series log cars purchased for the Chehalis Western RR. They also have cars from Weyerhaeuser and home built. If anyone is interested you had better contact them now. |

Can you describe the cars or post a picture? I'm in need of something older to use as the basis for a replica of an old school stock car...... dave |

I think these cars were built by the Milwaukee Road in their Tacoma shops. Some historic value there worth preserving. Take note museums in the PNW. If someone finds an auction online, please post about it. Thank you. |

I'd love to get one of these preserved at South Cle Elum, but we have our hands full with other projects. And the wish list is long... Paul Paul Krueger Secretary Cascade Rail Foundation "Remembering the Milwaukee Road in Washington" http://www.milwelectric.org |

From what I've been able to find, these cars are 1970s era rebuilds of older cars. Some photos below: http://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetai ... toID=46991 http://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetai ... toID=46993 http://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetai ... toID=46992 |

Thank you - they are about the right size, but newer than we'd prefer. I think it's worth a talk or two given their availability. dave |

Holy crap, Simpson sold the plant? I hadn't heard that before. Just read it here: http://www.simpson.com/getattachment/5d62018c-89f5-45b5-9803-d14867c4aa4d/Company-Announcement.aspx "Re-purposing" in regard to the railroad doesn't sound good at all. I think this was the last company-owned logging RR in the US. |

Simpson's plans to repurpose their railroad don's seem to include operating it. All four locomotives were sold to Sierra pacific with the two mills. |

Suspect "re-purposing" it is PC speak for "Selling the right of way to anyone who's interested, whether that be for fiber or power lines, condos, or whatever they want". |

These flats are special to the PNW Milw. I guarantee you and your group will regret it after they're all scrapped. |

Rock Island, I expect you probably realize it isn't always as simple as just rearranging priorities. That said, does anyone know how to contact the appropriate people at Simpson about these cars? Has anyone made contact with them yet? The gears in my head are still turning. If anyone out there is very passionate about saving one of these cars, feel free to get in touch with me.
