Anybody know how or why this post has gone missing? Really enjoyed it, was looking for more. Was here earlier in the week? |

The original poster while knowledgeable about boilers, has been using this forum for attacks on others in the profession. It was deleted by the moderators as being unnecessarily inflammatory. Personal attacks are not allowed on this forum. Your Friendly moderator Randy |

Friends, The boiler stuff is indeed interesting. I'm a boiler guy, working on and around all sorts of boilers since I was 14 years old. I like the boiler information. The problem is when an attack on a person or company is woven into the information. Mistakes can happen in any business. Learning how they are corrected and avoided is good. Attacking the company or person is not. We have no way of knowing what is true and what is not and we're not the truth police. Sharing a nice anecdote about a kind businessman who repaired and built boilers is great. Painting his children as villains is unacceptable. Their business decisions may or may not have been influenced by a lot of factors including greed, as was inferred, but also factors completely unknown to any of us. Again, we're not the truth police and there is no good reason to drag people through the mud. The message from your friendly moderators is when venturing into those topics please keep the personal stuff out. If you have an axe to grind do it somewhere else. it is sad when a lot of good information must be discarded because it is woven with attacks but that is what happens. Dear Most Friendly Moderators, Again. HUH?!?!?! As stated, Mr. Dixon wholly owned Dixon Boiler Works. His "hobby/charity" was building locomotive boilers, building boilers for stock, (one African Queen boiler ala Bogart, why not build a dozen?), maintaining an antiquated accounting system, etc. If the company was short funds, he wrote a personal check to cover it. As I was told by one of the Dixon heirs, he had been doing this for the 5 years before his death. As a result the books showed no profit for 5 years. Since the DBW never borrowed money from a bank, his heirs could not get a line of credit to alleviate cash flow problems. One day Mr. Dixon is supporting his hobby in his wholly owned company. The next day his heirs have to make the business work using accounts receivables on the books. Where does "have to cut losses" imply and/or insinuate greed? I felt sorry for them. The correct business decision under the circumstances was to scrap the Texas boiler and buy a 286. No "business mistakes" were made that I saw. The only mistake Mr. Dixon made was having a heart attack. Inflammatory? To who? The Dixon family? They sold out completely in 1995. The new owner closed down the 1625 Naud St. factory in the early 2000s. Current status: "This profile for Dixon Boiler Works is located in Signal Hill, CA. Dixon Boiler Works industry is listed as Mfg Electronic Components.Active Refreshed 4/14/2015" This is all ancient history. No fires here. |

Mr. Austin, Your post had a lot of good info but was indeed woven with attacks. Just one example was how you spoke of the beloved accountants and how when Mr. Dixon passed his (inferred greedy & heartless) sons fired them both and replaced them with a 286 computer. His sons are not here to defend their actions and we have no way of knowing the whole truth. That is enough to get a post deleted, it is an attack on his sons. The post contained other statements which were interpreted as attacks on people/companies in the boiler industry. This is not up for debate, the moderators decision is final.
