In another thread, I mentioned the restoration of the ex-Milwaukee Road waiting platform at Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, that was restored by a local historical group. I've since found a couple of photos on the internet and thought I'd post them here: http://landmarkhunter.com/photos/55/11/551174-L.jpg http://landmarkhunter.com/photos/55/11/551175-L.jpg I know that some covered platforms have been restored that adjoin a depot, but think that this might be the only FREE STANDING restoration. Does anyone know of any other examples? Les |

IRM has several along the car line. At least one is original railroad; used to be attached to the C&NW Arlington Heights depot. The others are recreations of trolley shelters. |

There are two preserved roofed passenger waiting platforms in Chattanooga, Tennessee. One is halfway up Lookout Mountain on a line that was formerly operated by the Chattanooga Railway and Light Company at the crossing of Incline No. 2. The other is on top of Signal Mountain on James Boulevard. It was constructed by the Chattanooga Traction Company and is near the old Signal Mountain Inn. Both structures are built of local stone and are freestanding. The platform on Lookout Mountain is the older of the two-regular service on that line having ended in the early 1900s and all service ending about 1924. The Chattanooga Traction Company ran passenger cars until about 1934. |

Those platforms are connected to the head house. I think the OP is referring to freestanding covered platforms with no depot or other passenger shelter. |

Muskegon, Mi union depot still has a portion of the covered platform and red brick. There is a station but I don't believe it was ever connected. I believe that there was a terminal track on each side of the platform and the station was on the east side of the east track. |

Twin City Rapid Transit Company built a waiting shelter at the end of its Glenwood Avenue line in western Minneapolis. The shelter was, and still is, located just inside Theodore Wirth Park and is maintained by the Minneapolis Park Board. All (most) of TCRT's cars being single ended, there was a wye at this point. See the two "then and now" photos. Thanks!
