Quote: I am also still numbed by the Indianapolis traction terminal shed scrapping. I recall the Indianapolis Terminal shed was saved by the Indiana Railway Museum in Noblesville? What is the story? Thanks! Wesley |

The Indianapolis Traction Terminal was on the property of the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville. One of the general managers at the time of it's scrapping told me that the ground on the property could not support the weight of the building. The ground was to much of a swamp. So he scrapped the building. |

Northern Ohio Traction's terminal in Akron was built about a year earlier and was considered the largest until supplanted by the Indianapolis structure. It became the headquarters of the Ohio Edison Company and still exists, although I don't know its present condition. I believe the train shed is intact. |

At least it is finding a use that should keep the building intact for a while. I am not sure what the status of the train shed is, but older photos are shown in this article: http://www.ohio.com/lifestyle/health/akron-institute-s-new-headquarters-is-former-electric-railway-station-1.314804# |

Hi, The train shed that was allegedly unstable and torn down. how long was it in place? It sounds like a possible leaning tower of Pizza engineering failure. Leaning trainshed of ITT. Doug vV |

The Indianapolis trolley shed was only stored, not erected at Noblesville. The Branford (Conn.) trolley museum had in kit form a car barn from Stamford, Conn., and a transfer table from Boston, Mass. Both were scrapped when newer administrations came into power. |

I remember visiting around noblesvile and seeing the shed stored on the ground, but then, later on...zoop...thats my comment above... Looking at photos of it its construction was fairly similar to the shed of the IC station shed in Chicago and the Milwaukee railroad shed in Milwaukee. A modeler has an easy start using Walthers train shed. |

Thanks for the more current info on the Akron terminal. I haven't lived in Akron in many years, and have only visited infrequently, so I wasn't aware of developments in a long time. For years, Ohio Edison used the train shed as covered parking. There used to be a metal gate at the south end of the building, which had built-in lettering indicating the location where mail cars were to be spotted. My mother and an uncle both worked in that building at different times. Tom |
