McHugh has a long history of doing good things for the railroad preservation. At this moment they have their Mack on display the the American Truck Historical Society show in York, PA. Former B&O SW-1 No. 8408 is in their shop right now nearing completion of a ground up restoration for Wilmington and Western RR. The work they have done is amazing and J.C. has donated a ton of labor and material to help out. |

The original "Skunk" railbus on the California Western was a Mack. Hartland Models makes a "G" scale Mack "critter" locomotive. |

The Hartland Mack is based on the 33 Ton prototype gasoline powered loco that they produced in 1921 and was used at their number 5 plant in Allentown. It's the one shown in the second photo posted above (and I've got one on my garden railway...). Nice to see that one of their diesel-electric prototypes has survived into preservation as well. I picked up a secondhand book on the subject of Mack locos & railcars when I was in the US a few years ago which was published by Lehigh Valley NRHS back in 1959. The details of the diesel-electric pair is sketchy in that, to say the least, so the link to the McHugh pages above has expanded the information shown in the book considerably. Interestingly the 1959 book has them numbered 3 & 4 rather than 4 & 5. |

Here are two photos of McHugh Locomotive & Equipment's Mack locomotive on display at York, PA last weekend. Photos are courtesy of J.C. McHugh. The McHugh company and family has done a lot of good stuff for preservation over the years. Look for more on McHugh's work on Wilmington and Western's former B&O SW-1 No. 8408 in the near future.
