Our trolley collection has increased by 200%, with the addition of MBTA PCCs 3321 and 3299. These are two of the "Red Hook" cars, the "Picture Window" cars built by Pullman Standard in Worcester in 1951. 3321 was the last one built there, so we now have one of the first Massachusetts-built trolleys in Shelburne Falls and Colrain Street Railway No. 10 (Wason Manufacturing 1896) and the the last one built. We will eventually restore 3321; the other car, 3299, will supply parts for 3321 and may be partly externally restored or may be scrapped completely after being parted-out. Or the 'parts car' may become the 'party car'.

We turned 3321 before unloading so it was facing 'west'

We used a trackmobile and towbar to move the PCCs off the Main Track

These cars were flooded with seawater while in Red Hook so they will need a fair amount of TLC to get one running again. The two cars provide enough good plexiglass to populate the windows of 3321, but we may decide to replace them with new glass.

We would like to thank the Branford Electric Railway Association for their assistance in acquiring these two cars. We already have a $12,000 pledge from an interested SFTM member to get one car painted. If you live close enough and are itching to work on a PCC, let us know.

Donations to our PCC Fund are welcome, see http://www.sftm.org/contacts.shtml for more information.

So, you see, it did 'end well' (http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36220&hilit=red+hook+PCC). And note, SFTM owns its yard, and our new Car Barn is well on its way to completion.

Thanks for the update. My wife and I visited Shelburne Falls many years ago when visiting her relatives in New England. The interurban car is an excellent example of bringing a "chicken coop" back to life and the trip to Shelburne Falls is very scenic. Adding MBTA 3321 to your collection means that the last Pullman-built PCC now joins San Francisco Muni 1040 (the very last PCC built in North America) and LATL 3165 (the last narrow-gauge PCC built in North America) among the ranks of preserved "streamliners". The one kind of Pullman-built PCC that "got away" was the unique to Pacific Electric center-door double ended type. All thirty of these went to Argentina in 1959, but were scrapped in the 1960s.
