Last month I had a chance to visit the Atlanta, GA. Cyclorama Building in Grant Park. The main exhibit besides the Locomotive Texas, is a huge mural depicting the fall of Atlanta to Federal troops under Gen. Sherman. The guide to the mural pointed out that this exhibit is scheduled to close permanently on June 30. The staff does not have any idea where and when the exhibit will be moved. I hope that the one of the best exhibits the 4-4-0 Texas also finds a good home.

Hi, I'd forgotten about them relocating Cyclorama and the Texas. I think it is staying in the City of Atlanta. Having said that, I would have prefered (I guess their questionaire to me got lost) to see the Texas moved to Kennesaw near if not next to the General. Same with Cyclorama. Oh Well... Doug vV |

Doug vV This actually is old 'news' --- see http://artsculture.blog.ajc.com/2014/07 ... ry-center/ and when it reopens it will be better. Bob H |

I think any chance of the Texas going to Kennesaw to be with the General vanished when Cobb County convinced the Braves to move out of Atlanta. The city of Atlanta owns the Texas and it would be political suicide right now to give or sell the locomotive to any entity in Cobb County. The Atlanta History Center is a great organization and will probably do better by both the Texas and the Cyclorama than the city has been. They already have a phenomenal Civil War exhibit. I live about 6 blocks from the Cyclorama, but haven't been to see it in years. Maybe this Saturday is the day to go. |

Hi, I've been to the Atlanta History Center many times - they are a great group. I liked their WWII show one year. They had one or two photos of the Roswell Railroad (standard gauge) with Southern Railways 13xx series ten wheelers. I've not been able to track down the plans or folio for them - some Southern Ry historians say they never existed but I have three photos with 13xx numbers. 1331, 1319, and 13xx if I recall correctly. The 13xx is "correct" - only the first two digits were legible. I recall when Stone Mountain was named Stone Mountain Memorial Park and was basically a Civil War history center. They ran the Texas II and the General II (I think they were from the New Orlenes area built around 1900-1920). I always thought that the General and Texas would have fit there well. Actually sort of glad they did not - it is now an amusement park (sad in my opinion) with an area set aside for historical builds from around Georgia (was called a Plantation at one time). Doug vV |

Hi Doug - the General and Texas IIs from Stone Mountain were from the Paulson Spence collection, Louisiana Eastern RR if memory serves. General II is now at SERM, handy for you to visit. Texas II went to Texas, I think.... Yonah II, former Cliffside 110, is now back home in North Carolina, being restored for service at New Hope Valley RR near Raleigh. dave |
Texas II went to Texas, I think....
I'm pretty sure that Pete Claussen bought the Texas II, and that it is now in Knoxville. |

Did he? This is good news, thanks for the correction. Texas isn't close by, but Knoxville is someplace I could more likely find myself visiting....... |
