I was aware that Union Pacific, Budd built 10-6 "Pacific Waves", made history being the last of the 50 cars in the "Pacific" series order for UPRR stainless steel sleepers built at the Budd Red Lion plant in June of 1950.

I was aware that "Pacific Waves" made history being the last 10-6 in revenue service from Chicago to Los Angeles on the final run of the "City of Los Angeles" on April 30, 1971, arriving at LAUPT in Los Angeles on May 2, 1971.

It is reported that "Pacific Waves" was the first 10-6 to depart Chicago to Los Angeles on the first train over the new Milwaukee Road route to Omaha as part of the "Challenger Domeliner" on the morning of October 20, 1955!

The consist for the first Milwaukee Road "Challenger" is in the new book "Overland Route Passenger Trains" by John F. Strauss, Jr.

How fitting that this car, having been the first revenue 10-6 from Chicago on the joint Milwuakee Road - Union Pacific Domeliner route to Los Angeles should then be the last revenue 10-6 over the Milwaukee Road and Union Pacific to Los Angeles, prior to Amtrak, as well!
