Yesterday I drove up to take a look at T&NO 124 0-6-0 at the Dequency Railroad museum. I was there at the right time because a worker came with a key to the fence at let me in to climb up into the cab. This engine has a 6 chime whistle, I wonder if that was original. At some point they have hooked up the whistle to the fireman's side air tank and the headlight bulb is replaced with a 110v flood lamp bulb. Theres only two guages in the cab, the train brake lever and oil stick lever is gone - prob taken out because they are brass. The water glass is gone too, I could only see one place for a water glass, was there only one? How do you know what gauges and where they mount if you were going to restore an engine? blueprints?
The fire brick looks just like it did on its last fire and theres was a layer of black buildup on the burner. I also noticed this must be a superheated engine because there are tubes that are bigger than the others, I think about 20 or 30 near the top. This engine also has a blowdown muffler, like the engine in Port Arthur, TX. I looks like a crawfish pot in the top of the boiler. These things always look like after thoughts, were they? I think the asbestos is still on the engine.
