The U.S. Transportation Corp 0-6-0T (5002) that spent many years on display at the infamous Tombstone Junction amusement park in Cumberland Falls, KY and then years of storage at the Kentucky Railway Museum in New Haven, KY is heading to a new owner.

According to steamlocomotive.com the engine has been sold to the Colebrooke Dale Railroad in Pennsylvania.

The engine has been pulled out of its siding at KRM in the last couple of days and is now sitting waiting for pick up at the Deerhead Lane crossing outside New Haven:

Would be interesting to see how the truck that comes to pick it up handles the windy and hilly little road that leads to the engines location.

If this is the engine I'm thinking of, Preston McEvoy has been working on this project for a little while now... Also of note, a while back Youngstown Steel Heritage donated a Pyle headlight to "the cause" once the call for one went out. Considering Preston is floating around here somewhere, he'd be the best person to explain the project.

First off, Boilerwash that is a wonderful picture of 5002 waiting to go home. Would you mind if we used it on our Facebook page?


Now down to business. Ej Lavino 2 aka USATC 5002 aka Tombstone Junction 2 is not owned by the Colebrookdale Railroad. While that will be her residence and she will be branded with the name, she is separate from our collection there (sort of like Stathi's chiggen). Judging by the performance of the other domestic use S100s, she will be well suited to our terrain.

Project 02 is the name of the team leading the restoration. There is something romantic about the little s100s. I received a message via our Facebook page yesterday from an engineer who ran Queen Anne 3 and he was so happy to see our project. Other notables include well wishes from museums and private around the world that have S100s.

If you would like to help with our teakettle, please donate to either the Colebrookdale Railroad for help with our facilities or directly to Project 02 for parts and labor.

Lastly a big thank you goes out to our supporters so far. YSH for the Pyle cab mount head light and reflector, George for the PRR class lights, the Colebrookdale Railroad for giving her a home, Tom Gears for pledging to help with some heavy repairs that will be done this month, and KRM for seeing value in keeping the old girl around.

Thanks for the support everyone. It is a relief that 5002 will finally becoming back to the state of her birth

People who know what is going on seem to be relatively scarce. I would just like to know when 5002 is set to arrive here and if she is going to Boyertown or straight to the shops.

Seeing as the loco is (apparently) privately owned, I suspect information will be doled out on a "need to know" basis. I haven't seen a shop for repair/overhaul discussed, which could mean it's going somewhere else, first, or everything will be done at the Colebrookdale.

The "shop" I was refering to was Colebrookdale's shop near Glasgow. As far as it being privately owned, it was my understanding that this is to be something similar to a Project 113 type of thing. The facebook page is here: https://www.facebook.com/usatc5002/time ... e_internal

Preston, they guy who does know what is going on, has posted here and on Facebook. I think he's done a great job communicating about this, and I assume he will share details as appropriate. It will be something to have yet another operating steam locomotive in southeastern PA.
