A few years back the last Canadian Pacific H16-44 no. 8554 was donated to some organization called The Locomotive & Railway Historical Society of Western Canada and shipped west out of Calgary. As of today does anyone know exactly what happened to this unit let alone if its still in preservation? The last time I saw it, it was in rough shape and by no means operational at any level. If it's still surviving I'd be quite interested to know if there is any current fundraising movement to restore this historic locomotive.

I believe it is still in outside storage at the CPR Ogden shops in Calgary.

The last time I heard of it K5, it was headed out to west to some private owner in the area possibly still in Calgary? I believe there are pictures on Railroad Picture Archives of the move but thats all I can find for the moment. To think that one of the last FM H16-44s is in Canada not a single engine in the US, well boy do Canadians know how to preserve their FM relics.

I very much doubt she is in danger of scrapping. The Canadians are well aware of their place in the preservation of FM design locomotives. If she is functional, this particular locmotive should be brought under cover and rebuilt, as the design is typical of a Diesel that briefly was abundant in North America.

CP 8554 is still around, and along with some other historic equipment is stored at the possibly defunct Mazeppa Processing Partnership gas plant, approximately 5 miles northeast of High River, AB.

Exact location is at these coordinates: 50.647394, -113.772536

Of note, it is coupled to the last 2 FM/CLC B-unit shells in existence, which were converted to Locotrol I robot cars by BC Rail. They are BCOL RCC3 (nee CP 4455) and RCC4 (CP 4456). Photos are from their previous storage location at De Winton, AB, approximately 22 miles to the northwest of Mazeppa.

With some info from the Canadian Trackside Guide (which unfortunately does not give their correct location) other equipment stored with the FM's includes CP lightweight baggage cars 404935 and 404947, CP automobile boxcar 404097 (nee 295524), CP RS-23 8017, a unknown gondola/flatcar and a unknown caboose.

Remarkably valuable collection. I'd like to see the windows covered. I'd loved to know what the long range plan is for this collection.

In case anyone is wondering why RCC4 is in pseudo-VIA paint, here's why:

Why is there no mention of the RS-23?

CP 8554 and the two former B-units are the only things left at Mazeppa. Everything else was moved to the Aspen Crossing tourist railway a few years ago, which conveniently is only 11 miles down the track.
