A NEW CAR FOR THE COLEBROOKDALE!

The Titanic had been at the bottom of the sea just two years when the Colebrookdale Railroad's newest addition was built. One of the attached photos shows it last week as it was in North Conway, New Hampshire, just before being loaded onto dollies for its trip south to Boyertown, Pennsylvania. Thanks to the good work of our friends from Daily Express, Inc., the car travelled through New Hampshire and Vermont this week. Today, it is on its way to Albany, Oneonta, and Binghamton, New York, crossing into Pennsylvania with a stop in Scranton. Friday's trip will take it from Scranton to Boyertown for unloading. The Colebrookdale secured new trucks for the car from Maine. Plans are to stabilize the car pending fundraising for future restoration. Seriously, another 6 axle!? Nothing wrong with that, just surprising how many Colebrookdale has and no 4 axle coaches. (not counting the N5b or the Rutland gondola)

Brief aside: Did the Conway Scenic grab one or more of the New Hampshire Northcoast's former PRR GP9's (the 1757 seen in the photo), or is that another GP with the same paint scheme and number? Ooops, never mind, found it: "Owned by the 470 Railroad Club, this ex-New Hampshire Northcoast unit is slated to become the donor unit for the ex-BM #4268. Once the transfer is complete, the shell of this unit will be scrapped. This unit was delivered on September 22, 2012, along with the 1751."

The new locomotive, a Pennsylvania Railroad engine from the 1950s, rolled into Boyertown on Tuesday afternoon as part of a small ceremony. The train arrived at the rail yard about noon with Pottstown officials on board, including Mayor Sharon Valentine-Thomas, borough council President Daniel D. Weand, Borough Manager Mark D. Flanders and Assistant Borough Manager Erica L. Batdorf. Upon arrival, they were met by their Boyertown counterparts, Mayor Marianne V. Deery, borough council President Frank J. Deery and Borough Manager Patricia Loder. The Colebrookdale Railroad currently runs trains from the rail yard in downtown Boyertown to Memorial Park in Pottstown. "I look at this as representative of the thriving region we're in," Valentine-Thomas said during the ceremony. "The beauty of this is that Boyertown and Pottstown were adversaries in football, but that's it," added Marianne Deery. "Boyertown and Pottstown now want to share in the beauty of the Colebrookdale Railroad." The Colebrookdale Railroad Trust had previously leased a locomotive, but owning one allows trust volunteers to operate the train, according to Nathaniel Guest, trust president. It also gives the trust a sense of self-sufficiency, he said. "It really is a landmark day for us to be able to stand on our own two feet," Guest said...

Its interesting that the new (to them) locomotive the exact type of locomotive, just a different number, as their former 7580, being an ex-PRR GP9 turned GP10 by Conrail.

Man that is one ugly looking loco. Who the heck was the previous owner that screwed up the paint so bad, a rock quarry?

The previous owner was Mobile Locomotive Services and it was leased out to a lime and stone quarry in Ohio. So, yes, a quarry did screw up the paint. While the media is advertising this as their first owned locomotive, the Plymouth, donated by PP&L coal fired plant in Birdsboro, was actually first.

Nathaniel, did you get the photos you were asking for? I had no idea the car was coming through Scranton, or I would have sought it out.
